Northstar
A harmony-led programme for serious guitarists who know scales, modes and theory but struggle to apply them confidently in real musical situations.
Northstar has already helped players ranging from dedicated hobbyists to professional musicians, teachers and graduates discover a clearer, more connected understanding of the instrument.
Does This Sound Familiar?
You know:
-
scales
-
modes
-
arpeggios
-
theory
Yet when it comes to improvising, following harmony or creating music, everything can feel disconnected. You know the information.
You just haven't found a way to organise and apply it.
That's exactly why North Star was created.

What Is Northstar?
Northstar is a structured 8 Week Live programme designed to help serious guitarists connect the dots.
Rather than teaching isolated concepts, the programme shows how harmony, fretboard navigation, triads, arpeggios, pentatonics and modal colour all relate to one another as part of a larger musical system.
The goal isn't to give you more information.
The goal is to help you understand, organise and apply what you already know.
What You'll Learn:
Fretboard Orientation
Learn to navigate the instrument with confidence.
Harmony
Understand how chords, scales and musical movement connect.
Triads & Arpeggios
Develop practical tools for improvisation and musical expression.
Modal Colour
Move beyond patterns and start hearing sound and function.
Musical Application
Turn concepts into usable musical ideas.
Who Is Northstar For?
North Star is designed for:
- Advanced hobbyists
- Music graduates
- Guitar teachers
- Working musicians
- Aspiring professionals
Especially players who:
- Feel overwhelmed by information
- Know theory but struggle to apply it
- Want greater musical freedom
- Need a clear framework for development
"For me it was light in the dark. I knew theoretically what Jim was talking about, but seeing it on the fretboard was like unlocking new levels in a video game. I have a lot to digest, but now I can see how everything connects."
-Diego
"I want to thank you for the amazing course. I learned so many new things that it will take me some time to fully explore each concept.
I've gone back through every session, taken notes and started identifying the ideas I want to integrate into my playing. The way Jim combined arpeggios with scale notes was amazing, and the approach to harmony immediately gave me new ideas and practical applications.
North Star has given me a huge amount to work with and a clear direction for my development moving forward."
-Stefan
"My biggest light bulb moment was stopping trying to think about entire scales and instead targeting smaller musical areas around the harmony. It immediately made my playing feel more focused, connected and musical."
-Tom
"It was a great course. I see modes differently now. I understood their sounds before, but never really practised them because there seemed to be so many shapes to memorise. Having them organised in colour order and connected to a pentatonic framework was a breakthrough. I was immediately able to hear and use modal colours in a practical way.
The octave-to-octave approach made so much sense, and the triad pair concepts opened up sounds and possibilities I hadn't considered before."
-Mark
Why Northstar Is Different
Most guitar education teaches concepts in isolation.
North Star helps players connect them.
Instead of adding more information to an already crowded mind, the programme provides a practical framework for organising, understanding and applying what you already know.
The result is greater clarity, stronger musical choices and the confidence to navigate the instrument more freely.
Outcomes
By the end of the programme, students typically experience:
- Greater confidence when improvising
- Improved fretboard awareness
- A stronger understanding of harmony
- Better connection between theory and practical playing
- More freedom to create ideas
- A clearer direction in their practice
Many discover that the breakthrough isn't learning more information, but finally understanding how everything fits together.
